Middlefield Regeneration

Stage 3

The new development of the Haudagain bypass creates many opportunities for multi-functional public spaces inside the Middlefield area of Aberdeen. Within the History and Theory module of Stage 3, 2016, the coursework involved creating a practical design with the intention of providing usable public spaces for the neighbourhood.  This space proposes to encourage residents into the area providing new opportunities for the Middlefield community but also to the city of Aberdeen. In groups through discussion and sketching we created a unique set of multi-functional play areas in the hope of drawing people from within and outside the city. This aimed to create a safer environment for the residents and adapt the space to provide mixed uses for all ages. The North-Western corner of the site offers a park area which aims to be suitable for walks and relaxation, whilst path intends to create a connection to the South-Eastern corner which is to be a livelier space suitable for busier activities and used by a range of age groups.
